Responsibilities
Clinical Activities
- Providing direct patient care and acting as a clinical role model for best nursing practices
- Supporting complex clinical decision-making and timely escalation of patient care concerns
- Participating in ward rounds to monitor patient condition, care quality, and safety
- Ensuring adherence to nursing protocols, care plans, and clinical SOPs
- Supporting care of high-acuity or high-risk patients (e.g. falls risk, pressure injuries, MDROs, tracheostomy care, wound management)
- Ensuring effective clinical handovers and continuity of care across shifts
- Providing clinical support during emergencies and deteriorating patient situations
- Support in Code Blue training sessions for the staff
- Participating actively in clinical improvement and practice enhancement projects
- Disseminate and implement clinical operational policies relating to direct client care procedures
- Assist in conducting clinical competency and providing orientation to new staff onboard
- Staff Supervision & Development
- Guiding and supporting junior nurses and healthcare assistants in daily clinical work
- Providing bedside coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback
- Supervise daily nursing care routines and procedures as a resource personnel to ensure quality of care provision
- Supporting orientation and on-the-job training for new hires and locum staff
- Supporting the trained preceptors in providing relevant coaching and mentorship to new hires
- Assisting with clinical competency assessments and skills validation
- Reinforcing professional conduct, accountability, and ethical nursing practice
- Supporting ANM/NM in identifying training needs and education gaps
- Promoting a culture of learning, teamwork, and professionalism
- Conduct regular clinical trainings and workshops for the clinical team
- Participate actively in clinical improvement projects
- Quality, Patient Safety & Clinical Governance
- The Assistant Nurse Clinician contributes to quality and patient safety initiatives by:
- Participating in quality improvement activities aligned with unit and organisational goals
- Supporting clinical audits (e.g. medication safety, falls prevention, infection control, documentation compliance, etc)
- Identifying clinical practice gaps and supporting corrective actions
- Promoting safe care practices and compliance with reporting requirements
- Encouraging incident reporting and open communication related to patient safety
- Supporting implementation of evidence-based practices at the point of care
- Resource & Manpower Coordination
- The Assistant Nurse Clinician supports efficient use of resources by:
- Supporting shift workflow and appropriate task allocation within the team
- Assisting ANM/NM in ensuring adequate skill mix during shifts
- Supporting coverage during staff shortages or unexpected absences
- Practising stewardship in the use of consumables and clinical equipment
- Ensuring readiness and availability of essential ward equipment
- Regulatory Compliance & Audits
- The Assistant Nurse Clinician supports compliance and governance by:
- Adhering to Hospital to Home (HHOM), Ministry of Health (MOH) licensing requirements, and Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) professional standards
- Ensuring compliance with organisational policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and clinical guidelines
- Supporting audit readiness through proper clinical documentation and practices
- Support in internal and external audits and inspections
- Maintaining high infection prevention and control standards
- Highlighting non-compliance or practice gaps to nursing leadership promptly
- Support in accreditation and licensing preparation exercises
- Support in documentation readiness for audits and regulatory reporting
- Support in data required to meet audit and performance management targets in a timely manner
- Administrative Reporting & Documentation
- The Assistant Nurse Clinician ensures accurate and timely documentation by:
- Maintaining clear, accurate, and timely nursing documentation in clinical systems
- Supporting incident reporting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and follow-up documentation as required
- Assisting in maintaining competency and training records when assigned
- Communicating effectively with nursing leaders and multidisciplinary teams
- Systems and Administrative Support
- Support clinical workflow coordination
- Respond to internal queries related to clinical and nursing matters
- Provide administrative support for clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Comply with organisational standards, procedures, protocols, and policies
- Adhere strictly to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) relating to patients and staff
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer / Nurse Manager
Requirements
- Possess a Registered Nursing Certificate
- Registered with Singapore Nursing Board
- Diploma in Nursing
- Post-basic or Advanced Diploma in Medical, Geriatrics, Palliative Care or relevant specialty is preferred
- Possess a professional demeanour and conduct themselves with integrity and respect towards all patients, colleagues and other parties
- Demonstrate patience and approachability while assisting patients and handling challenging situations effectively
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to interact with patients, colleagues and other parties
- Display adaptability and flexibility to work efficiently in diverse settings with changing demands and schedules
- Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and compliance standards
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills, with a positive work attitude and strong commitment towards service excellence
- Be a mature and objective lead, possess leadership qualities and positive interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate high professional standards, integrity and ethical conduct
- Exhibit strong leadership presence and emotional intelligence
- Display adaptability and resilience in dynamic healthcare environments
- Possess up-to-date Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) + Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certificate
- Must be able to work shift, occasional weekends and night shifts and public holidays
- Willing to go on rotational on-call roster weekly
