Job description

The Accounting Clerk will provide essential support to the Accounting Manager in a two-person accounting department. This role is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting tasks, including data entry, reconciliations, invoice processing, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working efficiently in a small team environment.

Reports To: Accounting Manager

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform data entry of financial transactions into Quickbooke accounting software.
  • Assist in reconciling bank statements, credit card transactions, and other accounting records.
  • Process accounts payable by accurately keying in vendor invoices and ensuring timely payments.
  • Assist with mostly accounts payable functions, including the tallying of invoices from suppliers and reconciliation of sales and bank entries.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records and filing systems.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes as needed.
  • Assist in preparing basic financial reports and summaries.
  • Verify and correct discrepancies in financial documents.
  • Handle routine correspondence with vendors and clients regarding billing and payments.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliations.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles (AP/AR, debits/credits, reconciliations).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a small accounting department or startup environment.
