The Senior Paint Shop Process Engineer is responsible for leading and optimizing paint shop processes to ensure high-quality finishes, operational efficiency, and compliance with environmental and safety standards. This role involves cross-functional collaboration, continuous improvement initiatives, and technical leadership in paint application technologies, automation, and defect reduction.

Responsibilities
  • Process Optimization: Develop, monitor, and improve paint shop processes including pretreatment, electrocoating (e-coat), primer, basecoat, and clearcoat applications in terms of material, process, and equipment parameters.
  • Quality Assurance: Analyze paint defects, root causes, and implement corrective actions to maintain high first-time quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead trials for new materials, equipment, and technologies. Interface with suppliers and R&D teams to validate and implement innovations.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Use statistical tools and process KPIs to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive improvements.
  • Project Management: Manage process-related projects including line upgrades, new model launches, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all processes comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and internal policies.
  • Training & Support: Mentor junior engineers and technicians. Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams.
You Bring
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering.
  • Certifications in Six Sigma (Green Belt/Black Belt), Lean Manufacturing, or PMP are preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in automotive paint shop engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of paint chemistry, application systems (robotic/manual), and defect analysis.
  • Proficient in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with MES, PLCs, and automation systems is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in PLC/SCADA systems
  • 3D layout tools (AutoCAD, CATIA, Siemens Process Simulate)
  • Data analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, Excel, Power BI)
  • Familiar with ISO/TS 16949, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001

  • Dirt analysis, count classification, reduction plans
