As Marine Biologist, I fully comprehend the vision of Six Senses to help people reconnect with themselves, others and the world around them, plus our values of local sensitivity and global sensibility, crafted experiences, emotional hospitality, responsible and caring, fun and quirky and pioneering wellness.

Sustainability, Wellness and Out of the Ordinary experiences are at the core of everything we do at Six Senses. I will safeguard these pillars and its strategic planning and development and ensure all directives, practices and initiatives are implemented, embraced, adopted within the hotel/resort.

Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, I will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation of the Experience department, especially for all functions and activities related to marine and local biology to provide exceptional products and services within Six Senses brand operating standards and budget.

Leading projects in three key areas: Research & Monitoring, Community Engagement, and Guest & Host Education.

Managing my own workload, work plan, and timeline, and communicating clearly with the Sustainability Director.

Update the Sustainability Director on progress, taking on any feedback and guidance as the projects develop on a daily basis.

Upholding the standards of a 5-star resort and taking every opportunity to engage with guests, host and other departments.

Develop, implement, and manage the Biology program activities as described below;

  • Research & Monitoring
    • Six Senses Amaala is part of the wider Red Sea Global development, including large-scale habitat restoration efforts. Data gathered within this role will be shared with the wider development team and contribute towards large scale conservation efforts. This role will focus on the habitat and ecosystems on Six Senses Amaala’s doorstep, primarily a mangrove forest, but also other micro-habitats around the resort. A key outcome of the role will be to conduct a full inventory of the resorts’ biodiversity and closely monitor and inventory the mangrove forest and the wildlife it supports.
    • Compile the results into a scientific report and collaborate with the resort Marketing Communications team to produce materials suitable for guest engagement and general public understanding.
    • Make management recommendations to conserve these species, and promote a diverse, healthy, and thriving ecosystem that works in harmony with the resort.
    • Specific research and monitoring projects may be developed by the Biologist as the role develops.
  • Community Engagement
    • Explore opportunities for external awareness and engagement activities, such as with local schools, governance bodies, towns, other tourism operators, and develop communications and educational programming relating to resort biodiversity, best practice, and mangrove ecosystems.
    • Develop a host education and engagement program surrounding Biology project activities, responsible behavior, and inclusion in research and conservation activities, such as citizen science and volunteering.
    • The Biologist will also support the Sustainability Director in conducting education and awareness initiatives surrounding waste management and other sustainability efforts.
  • Guest Education
    • Six Senses hotels take every opportunity to engage guests in our conservation and community projects. In addition to developing mangrove walkway signage, the Biologist will develop and host a number of guest activities on offer at the hotel, for example, Junior Mangrove Ecologist, guided walks, talks or presentations, kids club activities, and events for International Awareness/Celebrations Days. In collaboration with Front Office, guest activities will be scheduled into the weekly offerings for guests.
    • The Biologist will collect and provide content for social media and the resort sustainability newsletter.
    • The Biologist may be called upon to support other Sustainability related activities, such as Earth Lab workshops.
