Job description

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting and ensuring that mechanical components, assemblies, and systems meet specified quality standards, engineering drawings, and customer requirements. The inspector will perform dimensional, visual, and functional inspections using precision measuring tools and testing equipment to verify compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASME, ASTM) and company specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Inspection & Testing:

    • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of mechanical parts, assemblies, and equipment.

    • Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM, etc.) to verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.

    • Conduct visual inspections for defects such as cracks, corrosion, weld quality, and machining errors.

    • Perform functional tests to ensure proper operation of mechanical systems.

  2. Documentation & Reporting:

    • Record inspection results in detailed reports (e.g., inspection checklists, non-conformance reports).

    • Maintain inspection logs and quality records for traceability.

    • Document non-conformities and work with production/engineering teams to resolve issues.

  3. Compliance & Standards:

    • Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, API, etc.).

    • Verify that materials, heat treatments, coatings, and finishes meet required standards.

  4. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

    • Work closely with production, engineering, and suppliers to address quality concerns.

    • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for defects.

    • Recommend process improvements to enhance product quality and efficiency.

  5. Safety & Maintenance:

    • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.

    • Calibrate and maintain inspection tools and equipment regularly.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent (required).

    • Technical certification or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Assurance, or related field (preferred).

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience in mechanical quality inspection in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or oil & gas industries.

    • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), blueprints, and CAD models.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.).

    • Knowledge of quality standards (ISO 9001, ASME, ASTM).

    • Experience with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) or optical inspection tools (a plus).

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing plant, workshop, or laboratory setting.

  • May require standing for long periods and lifting up to [X] lbs.

Certifications (Preferred):
  1. Welding Inspection Certification(one of the following):

    • CSWIP 3.1 Certified Welding Inspector

    • CWI – Certified Welding Inspector

  2. ASNT NDT Level II Certification(as per SNT-TC-1A) in the following methods:

    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

    • Radiographic Testing (RT)

    • Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT)

    • Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT)
