GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Provide strategic leadership and oversee all nursing operations within the healthcare facility to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care while managing and developing the nursing staff.

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

• Manage and guide, promote, and monitor the nursing team to ensure a high standard of care is delivered in a safe, effective, efficient, and caring manner.
• Organize, direct and coordinate with other services in the facility to ensure smooth workflow and facilitate the continuity of safe and quality patient care while achieving optimal client satisfaction.
• Perform daily unit/ward rounds to visit each patient, conduct random night rounds, monitor progress especially post‑operative and critical patients, and advise unit managers and staff on situational problems.
• Conduct monthly meetings with the Nursing Management Team to discuss issues or matters pertaining to the operations of the Nursing Services to improve service delivery and resolve any pertinent issues.
• Attend ward/unit meetings as an advisor to improve unit operations/services.
• Present data and analyses of incidents and clinical indicators at hospital clinical committee meetings to improve operations.
• Participate in Heads of Services meetings chaired by the CEO/GM/OM to achieve shared goals.
• Monitor the 24‑hour nursing report for significant incidents, follow up with patients, deploy staff to busy units, or render assistance when required.
• Submit monthly nursing service reports (statistics, performances, activities, improvements, and achievements) to the Group Chief Nursing Officer, CEO/GM.
• Report verbally any adverse event within 24 hours to KPJ Head Office, Group Chief Nursing Officer, and relevant parties for timely resolution.

HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT

• Participate in recruitment, interviews, and selection of staff to ensure proper manpower allocation and staff competency.
• Review and monitor key orientation programmes for new staff to ensure they are familiar with policies, SOPs, and work requirements.
• Create and maintain a conducive working environment that encourages quality patient care and satisfaction.
• Provide and participate in continuous nursing education programmes, ensuring in‑service training and encouraging professional growth.
• Assess and appraise job performance of the Nursing Management Team for promotion and confirmation.
• Cooperate with the university and nursing lecturers to monitor student clinical training and renew practising certificates.
• Organize annual leave plans and duty rosters for the nursing management team to ensure optimum staff utilisation.
• Coach, guide, and motivate the team, monitor performance issues, and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

• Review and initiate revision of hospital and nursing policies when necessary.
• Implement nursing policies and procedures, ensuring all staff comply with quality and safety systems.
• Initiate random or regular audits on adherence and compliance to policies and procedures.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

• Monitor all Unit Managers.
• Keep accurate records of equipment, medical supplies, and drugs.
• Ensure all biomedical equipment is calibrated and serviced according to contract.
• Follow up on maintenance schedules.
• Collaborate with end‑users to prepare proposals for biomedical equipment and supplies.
• Collaborate with suppliers/vendors to provide equipment training.

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES

• Promote initiatives that contribute to continuous improvement of the nursing service, e.g., quality assurance, infection control, fire and safety.
• Advise and facilitate quality initiatives and improvement activities.
• Monitor staff adherence to policies and quality systems.
• Adopt and promote patient safety goals per International standards.
• Monitor incident reporting, investigation, root‑cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
• Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations.

• Registered Nurse with valid Annual Practicing Certificate from the Nursing Board of Malaysia.
• Bachelor of Nursing.
• Any post‑basic in nursing recognised by the Nursing Board of Malaysia.
• Preferably hold a master’s degree or enrol in a master’s program within two years of promotion.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a nursing leader.
