Summary

The Upholstery Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing and supporting upholstery manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality, efficient and scalable seating production. This role bridges engineering, operations and upholstery craftsmanship-ensuring that design intent aligns with manufacturability, that production processes are standardized and that continuous improvement initiatives drive measurable operation impact. The ideal candidate brings strong technical aptitude, hands‑on understanding of upholstery methods and experience implementing process improvements in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Perform advanced upholstery work on sofas, chairs, ottomans, and specialty seating
• Identify best in class processes, equipment and tooling for mass production of customized upholstered products
• Solve complex build challenges and coach upholsterers on best‑in‑class upholstery methods
• Troubleshoot fit, tension, and alignment issues to reduce rework and improve product consistency
• Ensure all products meet quality tolerances, safety standarmds, and aesthetic requirements
• Develop SOPs and work instructions for upholstery stations
• Conduct root‑cause analysis on upholstery‑related defects and implement corrective actions
• Track and analyze production metrics such as cycle times, scrap rates, rework and operator performance
• Provide real‑time engineering support to resolve production obstacles and maintain throughput
• Evaluate new materials, tools, and equipment and recommend improvements
• Inspect finished upholstery for precision, symmetry, durability, and craftsmanship
• Verify that all work adheres to internal specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations

Qualifications, Skills and Education

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or closely related field
• 5+ upholstery experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in furniture or automotive

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies
• Familiarity with CAD patterns or digital pattern‑making software
