A global packaging solutions company situated in Rho, Italy, is seeking a Senior Scientist to develop innovative packaging materials. You will work as part of the EMEA R&D team, collaborating with engineers and techs, and engaging with sustainability experts. The ideal candidate has over 5 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in packaging, holds a relevant university degree, and is fluent in English. This role also involves troubleshooting production issues and industrializing new products across European facilities.

Position Purpose

As part of the EMEA R&D team, the Senior Scientist mission is to develop new packaging materials by designing new formulations and exploring new extrusion, converting and printing processes with the aim of fulfilling the critical customer requirements and the desired sustainability claims. The Senior Scientist will work within a team of 8 process engineers, will partner with a team of skilled technicians and will work side by side with the R&D Applications team and the R&D Analytical team.

• With your technical skills, your chemical and polymer knowledge and hands‑on attitude you can innovate and design new packaging materials.
• Your expertise allows you to engage resin suppliers and select the newly released grades suitable for the process you are targeting for the next development.
• You run extrusion trials on our R&D pilot lines together with the technician team members.
• You are able to industrialize newly developed products on industrial extrusion lines placed across our European facilities partnering with the local process engineers.
• You can innovate and generate Intellectual Property opportunities on new formulations, new extrusion processes & technologies, new packaging concepts & methods.
• You make your contribution to delivering profitable growth across the relevant product lines generated by the new product launch.
• You are able to help the production facilities by debugging lines and solving manufacturing problems on existing products.
• You liaise with our internal engineering team.

You engage with sustainability experts with the aim of designing products compliant with the upcoming PPWR regulations.

Core Competencies & Values

Qualifications:

• University degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years work experience in manufacturing companies preferably in the packaging sector or in the extrusion equipment sector.
• Fluent English, second language (French, German or Spanish) would be a plus.
• Willingness to travel, mostly in Europe but also in USA/Asia.
• Ability to work effectively on projects with cross‑functional and cross‑cultural teams.
• Project Management skills and attitude.
• Leadership skills and ability to coordinate a team.
