A humanitarian organization is seeking a passionate Protection/GBV Specialist to lead protection and gender-based violence response for newly arrived individuals in Lampedusa, Italy. You will manage a small team and coordinate with partners to deliver timely, survivor-centered care. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Social Sciences, 3+ years of relevant experience, and fluency in Italian and English. Competenze

  • 3+ years’ experience in GBV and protection work.

  • Fluency in French/Arabic is a plus.

Job Overview

We’re looking for a passionate Protection/GBV Specialist to lead protection and gender-based violence (GBV) response for newly arrived individuals in Lampedusa. You’ll manage a small team, coordinate with partners, and ensure survivors receive timely, survivor-centered care.

Major Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead GBV response and protection monitoring at the hotspot.
  • Identify and support Persons with Specific Needs (PSNs), focusing on GBV survivors.
  • Deliver information sessions and safe-space activities for women and families.
  • Coordinate referrals to health, anti-trafficking, and legal services.
  • Train local authorities and reception staff on protection standards.
  • Collect and report data to strengthen program impact.
Job Requirements
  • Degree in Social Sciences or related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in GBV and protection work.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.
  • Fluent in Italian and English (French/Arabic a plus).
  • Knowledge of Italian legal system and international protection procedures.
  • Ability to provide psychological first aid and basic MHPSS.

Working Environment: This role is based in Lampedusa, with regular travel across Southern Italy to support disembarkation procedures and reception facilities. Expect a dynamic, fast-paced setting where flexibility and collaboration are key.
