A leading energy firm is seeking a Bare Pipe Inspector for an offshore subsea pipeline project in Italy. You will be responsible for quality surveillance, inspection, and documentation of bare linepipe during manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechanical or Metallurgy, 5-15 years of experience in pipeline inspection, and expertise in NDT methods. This role emphasizes quality assurance and compliance with international standards.

Competenze

  • 5-15 years' experience in linepipe inspection for offshore pipeline projects.
  • NDT certifications (PCN, CSWIP, ASNT Level II/III) preferred.
  • Proven experience in mill surveillance and vendor inspection.

Bare Pipe Inspector Offshore Subsea Pipeline Scheme Project

The Bare Pipe Inspector is responsible for quality surveillance, inspection, and documentation of bare linepipe during manufacturing at the pipe mill. The role covers inspection of plate/coil preparation, pipe forming, welding, non‑destructive testing (NDT), dimensional checks, mechanical testing, and coating readiness to ensure full compliance with ITPs, project specifications, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

Plate/Coil Receiving & Material Verification

  • Inspect incoming raw materials for heat numbers, chemistry, certificates, and surface condition.
  • Verify material compliance with API 5L, DNV-ST-F101, and project specifications.

Pipe Forming Process Inspection

  • Monitor SAWL, SAWH, or seamless pipe forming processes.
  • Inspect edge beveling, forming quality, and identify laminations or surface defects.

Welding Inspection

  • Inspect welding operations (SAW/ERW) including root, fill, and cap passes.
  • Review WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, and welding consumables.
  • Verify heat input, preheat, and interpass temperature control.

Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT)

  • Witness RT, UT, PAUT, AUT, MT, and PT examinations.
  • Review NDT maps, acceptance criteria, and repair procedures.

Dimensional & Visual Inspection

  • Check wall thickness, diameter, ovality, straightness, and bevel geometry.
  • Inspect for dents, cracks, laminations, undercuts, weld misalignment, and surface defects.

Mechanical Testing & Laboratory Review

  • Witness tensile, Charpy, DWTT, hardness, and CTOD testing.
  • Verify compliance with subsea pipeline mechanical property requirements.

Hydrostatic Testing

  • Witness pipe hydrotests and verify pressure, duration, and acceptance criteria.
  • Confirm calibration and validity of test equipment and documentation.

Pipe Traceability & Documentation

  • Ensure correct marking, heat number tracking, and pipe numbering.
  • Review MTCs, ITP documentation, NCRs, and surveillance reports.

Coating Readiness Verification

  • Inspect surface condition, preparation quality, and cleanliness before coating.
  • Confirm pipe suitability for FBE, 3LPE, or 3LPP coating processes.

HSE Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure adherence to mill safety procedures and QA/QC requirements.
  • Participate in vendor audits and quality meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with approved ITPs and project quality plans.

Technical Competence Requirements

  • Knowledge of linepipe manufacturing processes (SAWL, SAWH, seamless).
  • Expertise in NDT methods: RT, UT, PAUT, AUT, MT, PT.
  • Understanding of welding metallurgy and defect acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to interpret WPS/PQR, NDT reports, MTCs, and mill inspection records.
  • Strong knowledge of API 5L PSL2/PSL3, DNV-ST-F101, and related ISO standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering.
  • 5-15 years’ experience in linepipe inspection for offshore pipeline projects.
  • NDT certifications (PCN, CSWIP, ASNT Level II/III) preferred.
  • Proven experience in mill surveillance and vendor inspection.
