Senior Highways Engineer – take a role in the delivery of highway and drainage projects.

Candi should have good knowledge of highway design, active travel scheme design, highway drainage design, and should be able to apply the latest technology available in the market.

Degree qualified in civil engineering (BE/BTech, ME/MTech – any of these qualifications).

Qualifications and experience required are summarized below:

• Minimum 8+ years in drainage and road design.
• Ability to deliver high‑quality design models, drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications.
• Excellent understanding of relevant standards (e.g., DMRB and Local Highway Authority standards).
• Experience in managing project teams and providing technical leadership.
• Experience in drafting bid proposals, raising early‑warning notices, and ensuring delivery within time and cost constraints.
• Experience working with clients such as National Highways, Network Rail, and Local Highway Authorities.
• Strong communication skills – confident and professional written and verbal communication at all levels.
• Technical competence in surface and foul‑water drainage design, independently delivering work and integrating with larger project teams.
• Preparation of concept and detailed design of 2D and 3D car park layout design, and private street design.
• Proficient in 3‑dimensional highway design software such as Civil 3D and Info‑Drainage.
• Good experience in utilities coordination and working with contractors.
• Capability to conduct independent technical checks.
• General IT software skills – Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and ProjectWise.

• Chartered Engineer (ICE or CIHT) will be an added advantage.

• Complete assigned tasks in accordance with quality, timescales, and budgeted hours.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to achieve project objectives, developing design solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards, and are compliant with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Mott MacDonald’s quality standard procedures.
• Provide technical mentoring to the team and others for the key service areas provided by the Highways team.
• Provide leadership with knowledge management and digital delivery initiatives for the team.
• Provide supervision and mentoring, identifying opportunities for professional development and progression along with specific line management responsibilities for designated direct reports.
• Foster a culture of right‑first‑time delivery and work with Project Managers / Principals to ensure effective project delivery.
• Work with senior discipline staff to proactively manage workloads and effective forecasting, ensuring maximum utilisation of team members, and allocating appropriate staff to projects or bids as agreed.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and new technologies.

As a Senior Highways Engineer, you will work alongside experienced professionals within multi‑disciplinary teams and will gain experience using industry‑standard toolsets on a range of challenging and dynamic projects. You will build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication skills, and provide technical guidance within your team while developing your own skills and capabilities through our development and training programs.
