Overview

At West Midlands Police (WMP), we are committed to creating an environment that invests in, values, and improves the health and wellbeing of our people. The in-house Occupational Health and Wellbeing department is going through a period of change with a new Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing appointed December 2024. We have roles to enable us to improve multi-disciplinary services for a Force with over 7,500 officers and 3,500 police staff. This role is based at Tally Ho!, Edgbaston, Birmingham and may include agile working and some travel across the West Midlands Police estate for clinics.

1 FTE Practice Manager - Occupational Health & Wellbeing Grade 8 - £50,088 to £54,879

We are seeking a Practice Manager - Occupational Health & Wellbeing to join our in-house team. This full-time permanent role offers a great opportunity to manage the service for officers and staff. You will hold a formal qualification in a relevant subject, be enthusiastic, organized, a good communicator, with a positive and flexible approach to work.

The successful candidate will work within the Department's Senior Leadership Team (SLT), lead the administration team, and support the multi-disciplinary clinical team including Force Medical Advisors, Occupational Health Nurse Advisors, Trauma Therapists, Occupational Health Practice Nurses, and Occupational Health Technicians. A robust induction plan will provide support and guidance in the early stages of employment to ensure readiness for this critical role.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualifications in relevant subject
  • Experience of working within and managing an Occupational Health and Wellbeing department or relevant clinical function
  • Experience of managing a team/people
  • Able to develop and proactively manage relationships with police managers, key stakeholders and partners/customers
  • Capable of monitoring the available Occupational Health and Wellbeing performance data, to identify trends and proactively react to changing needs
  • Understand performance-related improvements that can be achieved by process changes and what changes are required
  • Understanding of inter-dependencies with other departments and how to promote professional relationships with the force's key stakeholders
  • Passionate about all aspects of Occupational Health and Wellbeing
  • Ability to work under pressure with competing demands

  • Strong background organizing and delivering health and wellbeing focused activities


Note: Prospective officers and staff must be held to a higher standard of behaviour and accountability than members of the public; privacy may be fettered in certain circumstances to ensure officers are fully aware and accountable for their position and the standards of professional behaviour required.

Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing roles, including full background and financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully passing medical checks, which may include a drugs test and, if required, a fitness test.

Hours: The post holder will work core service hours (Monday - Friday) with some flexibility to meet service demands. Working other hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, may be required based on service need.

Location: Primarily based at Tally Ho!, Edgbaston in Birmingham, with travel within the force area as required.
