Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, manages large transport infrastructure projects, and is responsible for delivering a long-term multi-modal transport strategy for the West of Scotland.
Having upgraded our Subway stations and introduced a new fleet as part of our Subway Modernisation Project, our next major milestone will be transitioning operations to our new state-of-the-art Operational Control Centre.
We have a great opportunity to join our Subway Operations Team. The Operational Control Centre (OCC) Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient, and customer-focused operation of the subway by supervising the OCC team on a shift basis. They will ensure shift coverage across all OCC functions and foster a collaborative, positive, and supportive environment to meet performance and service level targets. The OCC Supervisor will perform immediate and tactical actions, coordinate and communicate with other departments and external agencies to manage and minimise the impact of emergencies and incidents. They will also support the OCC team with the delivery of new systems embedded within the subway modernisation project and take a proactive role in providing the Subway service.
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of risk assessment and incident management, along with a good understanding of customer service principles. An in-depth understanding of train operating principles, railway rules, regulations, and emergency procedures is desirable. Knowledge of safety-critical requirements of a light railway system and multiple rail control software is also desirable. Experience working at a supervisory or line management level within an Operational Control Centre, liaising with senior staff, is preferred. You should have experience working in a pressurised and reactive environment, with strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills. You will be highly motivated, contribute positively to improving ways of working, and embrace evolving changes and technologies.
You will be educated to standard grade level in English, Maths, and Arithmetic or equivalent. A transport industry professional qualification is desirable.
This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, working a 5/7 shift pattern. The role may require working outside normal hours to support operational needs.
You will be based at the Operational Control Centre, Robert Street, Glasgow.
