Job description

The post holder might also be responsible for providing non‑complex local anaesthesia vascular access procedures and undertaking outpatient clinics at our outreach clinic based at Aintree University Hospital. During out‑of‑hours, these patients will be the responsibility of the core Renal Transplant on call consultant and registrar team based at the main site (Royal).

Essential Criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP); proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview. CESR and European Community Rights also acceptable.
  • You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
Desirable Criteria
  • Reasonable experience in Transplant & Emergency Surgery, experience of general and transplant surgery.
  • Experience of emergency general surgery in a busy unit.
  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of medical audit, medical education, current clinical and medical best practice.
  • Understanding of the clinical governance process.
  • Competent in basic IT skills.
  • Clinical and sub‑specialty education and training.
  • Presentation of audit in meetings.
  • Formal experience in teaching with university exposure.
  • Further skills in information technology.
  • Ability to lead, communicate, liaise and negotiate with others.
  • Willingness to support the efficient and smooth running of the specialist service.
  • Ability to motivate, innovate and support all disciplines.
  • Ability to supervise, appraise, coach and mentor trainees and other doctors.
  • Awareness of health service reforms and issues across the healthcare economy.
Teaching and Training – Essential Criteria
  • Commitment to continuing medical education.
  • Ability to organise and participate in teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Experience in demonstrating clinical procedures and techniques to other healthcare professionals.
  • Minimum of two publications in peer‑reviewed journal as first author.
  • Ability to undertake complete audit cycle.
  • Ability to undertake multidisciplinary audit.
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical research.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues.
  • Interest and awareness of research methodology.
Teaching and Training – Desirable Criteria
  • Track record of publications in peer‑reviewed journal.
  • Track record of clinical trials recruitment.
  • Research degree (MS/MD/PhD) and teaching of degree students with feedback.
  • Fellowship in transplant or emergency surgery.
