An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Bone Marrow Transplant Team in Oxford. If you have experience in Haemato-oncology or Bone Marrow Transplant nursing, we invite you to apply for this role.

The Oxford Bone Marrow Transplant programme treats 130+ patients each year with Allogeneic and Autograft Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplants from across the Thames Valley region. You will have the opportunity to work in a highly experienced and skilled team caring for patients in the planning, treatment, and post BMT phases.

As part of the BMT Specialist Nursing team you will work with a wider multi-disciplinary team of Doctors, Allied Health professionals and scientists to plan and co-ordinate transplants as well as support and counsel patients through pre- and post-treatment. The work spans across Outpatient clinic, Day Treatment Unit, Ambulatory and Inpatient care.

Alongside the clinical element of the role there is the opportunity to be involved in service development, departmental education, emerging BMT research, national forums and international conferences.

The Specialist Nurse will provide expert nursing care to patients referred to the Oxford Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) service.

The Specialist Nurse will
• Accept patient referrals to agreed criteria and be identified as the key worker for an agreed patient/client caseload.
• Provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers, related donors and other health care professionals.
• Practice clinically in agreed care settings according to the departments approved protocols or guidance.
• Contribute to the smooth running of the BMT service.
• Work across departmental boundaries.
• Liaise with other hospital and community teams along agreed pathways to support the delivery of patient and family centred care.
• Contribute to the on-going development of the BMT service.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

Provide expert nursing care to patients referred to the Oxford Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) service.

Specifically, this would include:
1. Working independently with patients throughout the Autograft and Allograft pathways. This will incorporate both independent nurse-led, face to face and telephone consultations
2. Liaising with District General Hospitals providing effective, detailed communication to ensure seamless treatment during the transplant pathways.
3. Assist in the education and pathway management for DGH services setting up Transplant programmes.
4. Working collaboratively with NHSBT service and other registries regarding cell collection and infusion.
5. Providing clinical advice in accordance with current evidence-based practice.
6. Promoting excellence in clinical areas in line with JACIE standards.
7. Holistically assessing the needs of patients and their cares in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and providing specific advice and support as appropriate.
8. Assist the BMT Senior Specialist Nurses in the development of nursing policies related to the BMT service.
