Job description
Lead and Grow a National Health & Safety Practice

Are you an established Health & Safety partner looking to join a City‑led international firm’s national practice? Our client is seeking a Partner to lead high‑quality advisory work for social housing providers, private‑sector landlords, and clients across the Built Environment sector. This is your opportunity to work on cutting‑edge Building Safety legislation, lead complex compliance matters, and drive business development in a growing practice area with excellent support and infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Partner you’ll join a national Health & Safety team based in Manchester that works across four UK offices. The team works flexibly both remotely and in office supporting clients and projects throughout the country.

You will lead the non‑contentious aspects of health and safety law for social housing, private‑sector landlords, developers, contractors and consultants, covering statutory compliance, Building Safety legislation, and health, safety and environmental due diligence. You will also drive business development, build and maintain key client relationships, and contribute to the strategic growth of the practice.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead and develop the non‑contentious Health & Safety practice in collaboration with the health and safety lead partner and wider team.
  • Statutory Compliance: Advise social housing and private‑sector landlords on statutory compliance and contractual obligations across fire safety, asbestos, legionella, mould, electrical and gas safety.
  • Policies & Crisis Management: Lead development of health and safety policies and procedures and manage crisis situations following accidents, incidents or near misses.
  • Insurance Advisory: Advise on insurance cover for legal liabilities and legal expenses.
  • Contaminated Land: Advise on contaminated land posing human health risks and potential claims for landlords and freeholders.
  • Building Safety Legislation: Advise landlords, developers, contractors and consultants within the Built Environment on all aspects of Building Safety legislation.
  • Due Diligence: Lead health, safety and environmental due diligence on real estate, commercial and corporate transactions.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build, maintain and develop key client relationships across the social housing, private‑sector landlord and Built Environment sectors.
  • Business Development: Lead marketing initiatives, client training sessions, thought leadership and strategic business development activities.
  • Team Development: Supervise and mentor junior lawyers, contributing to their professional development.
  • Practice Development: Contribute to the strategic development of the Health & Safety practice nationally.
About You

Qualified solicitor at partner level with substantial post‑qualification experience in non‑contentious Health and Safety work.

Proven ability to lead and manage complex matters independently, strong client focus, commercial awareness, technical skills, and innovative application.

Excellent leadership, ability to work flexibly, substantial client management experience, demonstrable track record in origination and business development.

Strong academic record, methodical, disciplined and organised approach, ability to supervise and mentor junior lawyers.

Proven experience or track record in Building Safety legislation, advising social housing providers, private‑sector landlords, fire safety, asbestos, legionella, contaminated land, health safety and environmental due diligence, crisis management, thought leadership and strategic practice development.

What’s On Offer

Competitive partnership package:

  • Salary: £90,000 – £140,000 (dependent on experience and client following)
  • Profit share arrangement
  • Performance‑related bonus structure
  • Comprehensive benefits package

Professional environment:

  • Work with a City‑led international firm with over 170 partners and 1,000 staff across the UK, Middle East and Asia.
  • Strategic partnership with Interlaw facilitating multi‑jurisdictional matters.
  • Leading practices in Corporate Litigation, Tax, Banking & Finance, Real Estate and Private Wealth.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and ESG principles.
