Job description

We’re Creditspring, a fast-growing FCA-regulated consumer credit company. We offer a new way of borrowing that focuses on members and provides them with safe and efficient financial products. As the only subscription finance company in the UK market, we truly have a unique value proposition. Our mission is very clear: to improve the financial stability and resilience of our members.

Our world‑class, well‑funded, diverse team comes from more than 20 different countries and has grown significantly in the last 18 months. We strongly believe in the product we’re building and take pride in the service we’re providing for our members.

About the role

As a Ruby/Rails engineer you’lluse a modern, event‑driven Ruby/Rails stack on Heroku, follow best practices, keep our libraries fresh, value strong automated testing, review each other’s code, and tackle tech debt continuously.

We are proud of our tech stack, built on battle tested foundations. We use latest versions of Ruby and Rails. You must have several years of Rails experience. RSpec skills will be greatly appreciated. You'll be working with our product team on our user-facing web app, thus a strong knowledge of HTML and CSS are a must. We embrace Hotwire, Turbo and Stimulus, and direct experience would be helpful but we don't say no to fast learners.

Responsibilities
  • Working with the product team to develop features that have an impact on our customers.
  • Helping to decide scope and planning projects, and your domain knowledge will be invaluable in helping us identify what's most important to tackle.
  • Making pragmatic recommendations on the best technical tools for each situation – you'll be weighing trade‑offs and helping us choose what works.
  • Getting hands on triage and bug solving; we take bugs seriously by prioritising the ones that affect customers and the business.
  • We're very data driven. You'll bring data to the table daily to help the team make informed decisions.
  • Work as a full‑stack developer knowing when it is the right time to delegate to a specialist for help.
  • Dive into our event-driven system, based on Kafka, and get a solid foundation in modern system design.
What you’ll need to succeed
  • You are driven by a passion to solve real user problems in a pragmatic, simple and elegant way.
  • You take ownership of your features from start to finish, knowing that coding and deploying is just the beginning.
  • You know that Agile is a mindset and not a set of tools.
  • You trust automated testing to guarantee the quality and maintainability of what you build.
  • You have your own set of trusted open‑source tools.
  • You keep yourself up‑to‑date following tech blogs and reading books.
  • We use latest versions of Ruby and Rails. You must have several years of Rails experience. RSpec skills.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS is a must!
Why Creditspring?
  • A Positive Mission. We are committed to help our 300k customers to go from debt to savings without stress. Very few companies get these reviews (https://www.feefo.com/en-GB/reviews/creditspring?displayFeedbackType=SERVICE&timeFrame=YEAR) in finance.
  • An Exciting Architecture. We built an exciting event driven system in Ruby/Rails. Check out this talk from our CTO at the London Ruby User Group (https://brightonruby.com/2018/introduction-to-event-sourcing-for-rubyists-alfredo-motta/) to know more.
  • A Healthy Tech Stack. We did build our tech responsibly, making sure it did stay in good shape. It is a pleasure to work on our codebase.
  • Impact through collaboration. You’ll work along other teams to evolve our web app, aiming for positive customer impact by building a good-looking product, fast, simple and reliable. We tackle challenges together through regular cross‑team discussions, and your solutions will help solve real problems.
Benefits
  • £1,000 yearly training budget for conferences, courses and books.
  • New company MacBook laptop.
  • 25 days holidays.
  • Equity participation.
  • Visits to our London office

Don’t meet all the listed requirements? Research shows that women and people of underrepresented groups often don’t apply for jobs unless they’re 100% qualified. As an equal opportunities employer, we know that diversity is a key part of our teams' successes — so if your experience doesn’t fit perfectly but this role excites you, we’d love for you to apply. We’re committed to Creditspring being an inclusive environment where employees feel welcomed, valued and listened to; we want you to thrive as your true self.
