Job Introduction

We have an opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic social journalist to join our diverse team, bringing stories alive across our social media accounts. If you are passionate about crafting high-quality social media content, we would love to hear from you.

Main Responsibilities

As a Journalist, your main responsibilities will include:

• Managing our social media accounts (Facebook, X, Instagram), building relationships with online communities.
• Collaborating with reporters to create, curate, and promote stories tailored for each platform, driving engagement and referrals to BBC products like BBC Sounds.
• Developing a strong relationship with the Social Media Journalist in Guernsey and the wider team in the South West UK.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about growing audiences, creating digital content, and reaching new social media audiences. The candidate should:

• Have a passion for storytelling and understand what resonates online.
• Be skilled at identifying stories with digital potential.
• Understand the BBC Local Social Strategy and be capable of turning online, video, and audio content into engaging social media posts.
• Be familiar with social listening tools like Newswhip and data interpretation; knowledge of publishing tools like Social Flow is a plus.
• Possess filmmaking skills, including shooting and editing with tools like Final Cut Pro.
• Know Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop (training available).
• Be a great storyteller, regardless of journalism background.
