Wehave an opportunity for a Specialist Nurse to work as part of the BarnsleyAdult Epilepsy Nursing Service providing assessment and medical management forpatients, advice and education to patients, families, carers and professions inrelation to the diagnosis & management of epilepsy
Thispost is suitable for a registered nurse who has proven clinical experience,ideally working previously within neurology, and has experience of working withpeople with epilepsy and shows a keen interest in developing their knowledge,skills and practice in this specialty.
Youwill need to demonstrate a robust understanding of issues related to adultswith a lifelong health condition and work autonomously assessing patientsholistically, supporting a complex caseload of patients accessing the carepathway
Youwill also be delivering education and training for patients, carers, healthcare professionals and other professional groups

Work autonomouslyassessing and managing a defined clinical caseload in clinics, home visits and telephone/virtualappointments
Provide medicalmanagement for patients and specialist support, education and complex casemanagement to adults with epilepsy and their families & carers
Contribute to thecontinuous improvement of the service, acting as a source of nursing expertisein this area
Have high levelcommunication/interpersonal skills to negotiate and establish collaborativepartnerships with patients and care professionals
Have responsibility forperformance and clinical activity in relation to patient safety and patientexperience
Ensure compliance withclinical governance frameworks ensuring performance systems are in place andInfection Control policy/procedures are followed
Have a key role intraining, education & staff development, participate in regular supervision& appraisals contributing to a culture of learning/reflective practice

Communicate effectively, empathically and in a culturally sensitive manner with patients, families, carers and other representatives. Interpreters will be used effectively where the need is identified.
Communicate effectively with all members of the service; providing information as necessary to provide a cohesive and effective service.
Communicate effectively with other health professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure a team approach to patient care; providing explanations of any relevant cultural issues as required.
Communicate effectively with GP practices and health professionals in other areas.
