We are seeking to appoint an Advanced Technician in Mechanical Engineering - previous applicants for this position need not apply

Aims of Job / Job Purpose

The main responsibility of this role is to support in the day-to-day effective running of the workshops as directed.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • To keep the workshop clean and tidy and ensure standards of hygiene are met and maintained
  • To assist lecturers in all practical classes, in a supervisory / teaching capacity
  • Be responsible for equipment, fitting and consumables
  • Log all tools and equipment in and out of tool stores
  • To maintain machines and tooling
  • Keep inventory and stock of all tools, machines and fitting
  • To check that all equipment is in a safe working order at all times
  • Liaise with Head of School and Lecturers in ordering tools, fittings, consumables and keep accurate budgetary records
  • Develop work areas and rigs for students use
  • Maintain machines, tools and work areas
  • Plan and progress a series of jobs, keeping the line manager informed of activity
  • Attend and contribute to the section meetings
  • Prepare materials for classes as requested by teaching staff
  • Work in other trade areas for the effective support of students and cover for absent colleagues, this could involve supporting / cover of teaching staff as / when required at times of staff shortage / sickness
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety in own work and in the workshop area
  • Support teaching team with formative and summative assessments
