Are you a recent university graduate? Do you want to gain experience in the mental health sector in preparation of becoming a future child psychologist?

A fantastic SEMH school in Swindon are looking for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to help support their students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. The children in the school have a range of mental health needs and therefore need someone who is caring, compassionate and up for a challenge! This is perfect experience if you are interested in a future as a psychologist.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting children with anxiety, trauma, OCD, depression, anger issues and attachment difficulties, as well as other additional needs such as Autism and ADHD. There is likely to be challenging behaviour as well as many wellbeing needs, so you need to be proactive and flexible to cater to the needs of each child.

This is a role where no two days are the same! However, your general duties will involve working with small groups of pupils in the classroom, supporting both their emotional needs and learning needs. You will help boost their self-esteem, increase their independence and help them understand their emotions.

If you are a recent graduate and want to become a Clinical Psychologist, this will offer you the vital experience needed to train in the future. As all the students have regular access to Psychologists and Therapists on-site at the school, you will get the chance to shadow them and see how they work with the pupils. You will also gain first-hand experience with children who have significant needs and learn how to communicate with and support them.
