Job description

This is a substantive post available due to the resignation of the previous post holder. An induction will be provided to explain your roles, responsibilities and workplace, followed by a Trust induction after you start in your allocated post.

The successful applicant(s) will work within their allocated post, performing clinical assessments of individuals with mental health conditions, including mental state examination, history taking, physical health examination and attendance at meetings with the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will gain experience with the full spectrum of psychiatric morbidity, working closely with doctors, nurses, health care assistants, psychologists, social workers and graduate mental health workers. The care delivered is recovery‑focused, emphasising individuals' strengths and future goals.

Key responsibilities
  • Join and document morning meetings and ward/community reviews.
  • Perform clinical assessments of individuals with mental health problems admitted to the ward, assessing suitability for supported discharge.
  • Develop knowledge of mental health, including formulation of care plans.
  • Perform physical health checks (bloods, ECGs and physical examinations) and liaise with general hospital/GP colleagues to maintain patient physical health.
  • Develop psychiatric interview and risk assessment skills.
  • Be flexible and accessible in providing appropriate care to patients.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comply with the Trust values, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement work (e.g. audit, service development, etc.).

This role is based at the Crisis / Home Treatment Team, St. Ann Hospital, St Ann's Rd, London N15 3TH, Haringey, London. It carries 8 DCC and 2 SPA activities. Clinical supervision will be provided by Senior Medical Staff within the clinical senior leadership team as required. There will be opportunities to attend local Trust teaching programmes and gain experience within Quality Improvement Work. The post will provide excellent experience working with people with a wide range of acute mental health problems, gaining experience in assessment and formulation of treatment plans.
