Job Description

AtkinsRéalis is looking to appoint a UK Technical Director for Building Services within our Building Design practice. This role involves leading our technical capabilities with a focus on building services excellence, sustainability, building performance, and low carbon solutions, enabling our multidisciplinary teams to create innovative buildings and places.

This position reports directly to the UK Practice Director and Professional Head of Discipline, influencing over 900 Engineers and Architects in our UK Building Design practice.

Join our UK Building Services team, involved in some of the most challenging engineering projects across various sectors including Residential, Blue Light, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (Fission, Fusion, PV), Commercial, Transportation, and Defence.

Our work involves collaboration with designers across the UK and internationally, on projects ranging from individual buildings to city-scale solutions.

The Role:

• Seeking a knowledgeable mechanical building services expert with experience in delivering consultancy services for both private and public sector clients, especially in the Buildings & Places market.
• The role focuses on building design and environmental systems integration from project inception, including setting development directions at concept stages and conducting reviews as designs mature.
• Involvement in complex projects may require in-depth engagement.
• Support from regional Technical Authorities will aid in setting quality and technical standards, adopting new technologies, and guiding training initiatives.
• The role can be based in any UK office, with main hubs in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Epsom, Leeds, Warrington, and Cardiff, with flexible hybrid working options.

Responsibilities:

• Own technical responsibility for project quality, design standards, and delivery processes.
• Provide technical support to clients across various areas.
• Be knowledgeable of UK Government policies and industry initiatives related to Building Services.
• Represent the company as a Subject Matter Expert on Mechanical Building Services.
• Develop strong relationships with clients and manage key client accounts.
• Lead and motivate the Building Services team on projects.

Requirements:

• Degree or equivalent in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering, Chartered status with a relevant institution.
• Ability to influence industry peers and senior management positively.
• Extensive experience in Mechanical Building Services design, compliance, and practical application.
• Proven leadership and people management skills.
• Good commercial awareness, business skills, and results orientation.
• Strong relationship management and communication skills.
