Job Overview

Essex County Council invites you to join their dynamic Educational Psychology Service as an Associate Educational Psychologist. This ongoing locum opportunity offers a rewarding and meaningful role for professionals passionate about supporting children and young people aged 0–25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This role is ideal for those who are currently completing, or have completed, their Doctorate in Educational Psychology and are looking to gain valuable applied experience within a supportive local authority service. You will work under the supervision of qualified Educational Psychologists, contributing to statutory and non-statutory work while developing your professional skills in a wide range of settings.

What You Will Do

Deliver psychological work under the supervision of a qualified Educational Psychologist.

Contribute to statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments, including information gathering, analysis, and writing psychological advice and reports.

Provide consultation and advice to schools, settings, families, and other professionals to support educational planning and interventions.

Support early intervention work and promote inclusion within educational settings.

Undertake direct work with children and young people, including observation, assessment, and intervention.

Contribute to training delivery, support projects, and service development initiatives.

Apply psychological theory and evidence-based practice to support learning, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and inclusion.

Maintain accurate, high-quality professional records and reports in line with local authority standards.

Work collaboratively within multi-agency and multidisciplinary teams.

Uphold high professional, ethical, and safeguarding standards at all times.
