Job description

Who We Are

Our teachers are fulfilled by the idea of making even the smallest positive changes in our young people, so we celebrate the little things. There are lots of ups and downs, and for many of our pupils, simply attending a lesson can be a big win. These tiny successes, which we call "huge small victories," add up to make a big difference.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be working with children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Your role will involve helping them learn, develop their abilities and raise their self‑esteem. This work can be challenging – resilience and dedication are essential, but the successes you achieve will be something you can be proud of.

As a Teacher at Witherslack Group, you’ll receive support from in‑house psychologists, teaching assistants and therapy professionals. Your colleagues are experts in their fields, the school environments are well‑resourced, and we will be with you every step of the way, helping you build a rewarding teaching career.

Our new Castlefell School is a purpose‑built, brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art facility, catering primarily for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and also providing for children with autism who have moderate learning needs. The school provides education for up to 50 children aged 8 to 16.

This exciting opportunity serves Rudgeway and the wider community. We aim to ensure that every pupil has an outstanding educational experience, with individual pupil progress and care at the heart of what we offer.

What We Offer
  • Training: A full induction and on‑the‑job training
  • Holiday: You’ll be rewarded with full school holidays
  • Progression: Most of our head teachers and leaders have been promoted from within our group
  • Flexible benefits: You can increase or decrease benefits such as life insurance – see our benefits here
  • Pension: We offer a range of pensions to suit your lifestyle, including Teachers' Pension and our attractive TPS alternative
  • Wellbeing: A host of wellbeing tools and advice, including employee assistance
  • Medical cover: You can claim back the cost of optician or dentist appointments and enjoy a host of high‑street discounts
  • Beautiful working environments with the very best facilities – see our schools here
  • Recommend‑a‑friend scheme: A £1,000 bonus every time a colleague you recommend is hired
What You’ll Need
  • Your "can‑do" attitude – a team player who rolls up their sleeves to help others
  • Genuine passion for teaching English and the impact your subject can have on young lives
  • The ability to relate your subject to each pupil and build great relationships with your class
  • Enthusiasm and expertise to build your department
  • Previous teaching experience and Qualified Teacher Status

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and abilities. We are proud to be recognised as an inclusive employer and are committed to making our recruitment and workplace practices inclusive and accessible.

Adjustments to support you through the recruitment process or in the workplace are available – we will be there every step of the way.

The Witherslack Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check (we will cover the cost) and an online search. We are an equal‑opportunities employer welcoming applications from all sections of the community.
