Location & Compensation

Location: North Pole Train Maintenance Centre, London, United Kingdom.
Salary: £43,375 plus 15% shift allowance (£6,000 location allowance). Permanent contract on a rotating shift basis.

Accountabilities
  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment.
  • Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe & ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third‑party rolling stock.
  • Post‑operation checks and adjustments.
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
  • Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.
Requirements
  • Required Skills / Knowledge:
    • Milling / Turning / CNC or similar experience.
    • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Education / Qualifications:
    • M & E ONC or held apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines.
    • Engineering based NVQ Level 3 or 2.
  • Behavioural:
    • Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
    • Loyal, committed, confident and determined.
    • Good team worker.
    • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
Desired Skills (not essential)
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel.
  • Milling / Turning / CNC or similar experience.
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS.
  • Depot driving and shunting.
  • Wheel Lathe operations & maintenance.
