Gerda Security Products is committed to making the built environment a safer place to live, by providing the best quality fire safety and security products and services with outstanding value. The team are looking to recruit a Warehouse and Logistics Operative Apprentice.

Main roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles using manual handling techniques and support delivery operatives in the safe and efficient loading and unloading of goods.
  • Ensure that all goods received are inspected for damage, they match delivery notes and there are no missing items. Raise any discrepancies with the Warehouse and Logistics Manager (WLM).
  • Ensure that all goods for dispatch are inspected for damage and are accurate to delivery notes and raise any discrepancies with the WLM.
  • Move and store products, safely and securely, using mechanical handling equipment, and placing in the correct warehouse area in compliance with the relevant health and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following all health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain an inventory of the goods and raw materials in the warehouse.
  • Update stock levels in line with company processes.
  • Provide support to the WLM with both scheduled and unscheduled stock taking and raising any discrepancies with them.
  • Update computer system to keep necessary records and keep paperwork up to date.
  • Processing, picking and packing orders in a timely manner, and in line with the picking schedule.
  • Replenish picking location quantities by moving goods from stock locations, in a safe manner.
  • Clean and maintain warehouse equipment and general warehouse to maintain standards.
  • Participate in team briefings to ensure company targets are met.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and health and safety guidelines.
  • The Warehouse and Logistics Operative Apprentice will have daily contact with other members of the Warehouse & Logistics team, as well as with colleagues from the production and quality control departments. On occasion, they will also interact with customers. This role will support the logistics function and is a crucial part of the company’s operations to ensure that deliveries are executed efficiently and arrive on time.
Entry requirements

GCSE Maths and English at grades 4 or above required.

The learner will be studying the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College.

Things to consider

At times, delivery doors are open which can mean that it is sometimes cold. Also, some of the parts need to be transferred between the warehouse, production and stores area, so some outdoor based work will be required, in all weathers.

Possibility of a full-time job or higher qualification via the apprentice route.
