Overview

The Acute Cardiac Unit is a busy ward with a friendly Nursing and Medical team. This advert is for 15 hours per week, with working days on Monday and Tuesday and occasional holiday cover. The ward clerk provides day-to-day clerical support to facilitate the smooth running of the ward under the direction and supervision of senior colleagues. The role covers clerical duties such as meeting and greeting staff, patients and visitors, movement of case-notes around the trust, preparation and maintenance of patient case-notes, and booking patient transport. The main duties include supporting the administration service in recording patient information, dealing with enquiries and liaising with clinicians. You will work within the multi-disciplinary team in a ward area. The role involves day-to-day clerical support to facilitate the ward’s smooth operation, under supervision, and ordering equipment and booking transport. You will manage admission and discharge of patients using trust software and perform related computer and paperwork tasks in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Answer telephone queries from families and other departments in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Provide information in person or over the phone to visitors regarding ward routine and infection control.
  • Collect essential information via telephone or direct contact and communicate with the appropriate ward team member.
  • Receive and make telephone calls as directed by the ward staff.
  • Handle difficult situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Receive and direct patients, visitors and staff visiting the ward.
  • Contact GP surgeries and external agencies to obtain patient-related information as directed by the nurse in charge.
  • Deal with difficult and challenging patients and relatives in a calm, polite way.
  • Handle enquiries and issues escalated in an efficient, polite and courteous manner, providing a caring, compassionate service to patients, staff and the public.
