Job summary

A local volunteering initiative is seeking a Volunteering and Participation Assistant to enhance engagement and participation across museums. Responsibilities include planning events, coordinating volunteer recognition, and ensuring inclusive experiences. Flexibility in hours up to 25 per week. Salary ranges from £7.55 to £12.21 per hour depending on age and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with marketing to share volunteer stories.
  • Assist in the delivery of the work experience programme.
  • Organize exclusive volunteer experiences and events.
  • Capture media of volunteer events for promotional use.
  • Ensure inclusiveness in all activities and monitor engagement levels.

Volunteering and Participation Assistant

THE EMPLOYER IS: NATIONAL MUSEUMS NIThe Volunteering and Participation Assistant will support the delivery of engaging, inclusive and impactful volunteering experiences across National Museums NI. The post will contribute to strategic goals around participation, inclusion and wellbeing. This role will help foster a vibrant volunteer community through events, communications, and recognition initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver volunteer appreciation activities eg. coffee mornings, film nights, and pop-in socials.
  • Coordinate recognition initiatives including length of service awards, acts of gratitude and tokens of appreciation.
  • Support delivery of Volunteers Week and other celebration campaigns.
  • Support Visitor Services teams with delivering good quality volunteer experiences in our Museums.
  • Produce and contribute to volunteer newsletters, including organisational updates, calls to action, and case studies.
  • Interview volunteers for case studies and write articles that showcase their contributions and impact.
  • Collaborate with marketing and digital teams to share volunteer stories across platforms, ensuring appropriate media permissions and GDPR compliance.
  • Assist in the delivery of the work experience programme and peer mentoring/buddy systems.
  • Organise museum walks, charity fundraising events, and exclusive volunteer experiences (e.g. behind-the-scenes tours).
  • Capture photos and videos of volunteer events for internal and external use.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of an annual engagement plan aligned with strategic goals.
  • Ensure activities are inclusive and balanced across all museum sites.
  • Monitor engagement levels and provide feedback to improve volunteer experience.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Have the ability to write simple, engaging content including content for our website and newsletters.
  • Comfortable using email, social media, or a smartphone/tablet to take photos or videos (training will be provided).
  • A driving licence and means of travel across our sites.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays during events and key activation periods.

JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information- Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week.
Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach.
Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability. This should be discussed directly with the employer before starting employment.
Location: Ulster Folk Museum, with travel to other museum sites.
