Job description

As aCommunity Tin Collector, you’ll play a vital part in helping Farleigh Hospice continue its compassionate care across mid-Essex. We have recently expanded our service area to cover Halstead and the Colne Valley and we’re looking to increase our presence in this area.

You’ll be the friendly face connecting with local shops, cafés, pubs, and businesses—placing and collecting our iconic donation tins that quietly raise thousands each year.

This is a flexible, rewarding role that fits around your life and gives you the chance to make a real difference in your local area.

KEY TASKS

  • Build local connections– Chat with local businesses and encourage them to host a Farleigh donation tin.

  • Manage your tins– Swap full tins for empty ones (we recommend twice a year, but some may need more frequent visits).

  • Keep things organised– Keep records of tin locations and contacts, bring full tins to the hospice for counting, and collect replacements.

  • Thank supporters – Help us thank our supporters by delivering certificates showing how much they’ve raised.

  • Share the love– Distribute ourLanternmagazine to venues so they can see the impact of their support.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

To succeed in this role you will be friendly and happy to chat to supporters and business owners when delivering and collecting tins. You’ll have a passion for supporting your local community. You will also need to be a driver with your own car.

You must be willing to work to Farleigh Hospice values (we are caring, respectful, dedicated and innovative).

What being a Volunteer Community Tin Collector can do for you

  • You’ll make connections and build relationships locally, keeping active and engaged in your community

  • You’ll be part of a friendly and welcoming team

  • You’ll enjoy the satisfaction of playing an important role in fundraising in your local community – in the last financial year our collection tins raised approximately £17,000 in spare change across mid-Essex!

What happens now?

  1. Simply fill in our volunteer application form, telling us of your suitability for the role.

  2. Once we have processed your application we will be in touch to discuss the role in more detail with you.

  3. We will then send out your reference requests

  4. After checks are complete, we will send through the volunteer handbook, some training materials, and get your ID badge produced

  5. Once your training is complete and you are happy to get started, we will arrange a visit to the hospice to provide you with everything you need to get started

By volunteering as a Community Tin Collector, you’re helping to fund vital care and support for people across mid-Essex. Every tin you place, every pound you collect, helps us be there when it matters most.
