Sector Media and Publishing Contract Type Permanent Hours Full Time

Role purpose and overview

An exciting opportunity to join The Telegraph's audio department, being part of pioneering the visual output of one of our award-winning podcasts, Ukraine: The Latest.

Alongside our Studio Operator you will lead on the delivery and development of the visual aspect of the podcast, encouraging the show producers to develop and mould the editorial within a video context. You will work in collaboration with dozens of the UK's best reporters, correspondents and writers.

The role will include video production and editing of this daily show, a multi-cam edit turned around within a few hours every day. The role may also include working on other podcast titles down the line.

The ideal candidate will have a background in broadcast news, documentaries, or visualised podcasts. They will be able to demonstrate experience of working accurately and to tight deadlines and the technical and creative skills to make our podcast shine. A knowledge of the YouTube backend and how to best optimise our podcasts for the platform is essential.

A love of news and a knowledge of the wider news podcast landscape are also essential, especially the role video has to play.

Key responsibilities
  • To act as Video Producer of one of The Telegraph's daily news podcasts, working alongside our Studio Operator, Head of Podcasts and producers, to deliver the show.
  • This will include assisting with filming, editing and publishing both the full show in video form and relevant social media material.
  • Liaising with our Head of Video and Head of Social to make the most of our publishing plans.
  • To grow the visual brand identity of this podcast into one of the most popular news products in the country.
  • To work alongside our Social Media Editor to optimise video for social media, consistently having viral or high-impact moments, to push people back to the podcast.
  • To file manage for the podcast video edits
Key skills
  • A good foundation of experience working in news video, be that for broadcast, newspapers or other digital news platforms
  • Video editing for digital output including long form multicamera editing (Adobe Premiere)
  • Experience creating daily content, demonstrating a skill in working to tight deadlines
  • Single camera filming including rigging, lighting, and sound recording.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and risk assessment requirements for studio and location environments
  • Understanding of The Telegraph voice
  • A strong sense of editorial judgement and full knowledge of media law
  • Passion for podcasting as a medium
  • A keen interest in foreign and defence reporting
  • Experience working with a wider newsroom and high profile journalists and presenters
