Position: Custody Careers Advisor (CIAG) Salary: £13,113.75 for 18.75 hours Location: HMP Humber Contract: Part Time Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Careers Information Advice and Guidance Advisor to join our team – a crucial role in supporting individuals inside a custodial setting by providing tailored career advice, guidance, and support. This role aims to empower prisoners to identify their career aspirations, develop their skills, and leverage their strengths to prepare for successful reintegration into society upon release.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored career advice and guidance to prisoners through one‑to‑one sessions and group workshops.
  • Create and manage personalised learning plans to help prisoners achieve their goals during custody and upon release.
  • Support rehabilitation by equipping individuals with the skills, qualifications, and opportunities needed to secure employment or further training.
  • Organise opportunities for prisoners to connect with employers and participate in employment‑related activities.
  • Deliver engaging sessions on employability skills, career planning and effective disclosure to groups of participants.
  • Ensure goals are realistic and consider any barriers to employment due to convictions.
  • Foster genuine, trusting, non‑judgemental relationships with participants creating a safe space for personal growth.
  • Engage with prison education departments, training providers, employers and probation services to create employment pathways.
  • Conduct one‑to‑one assessments to identify prisoners’ skills, career aspirations and training needs and develop a Prisoner Learning Plan (PLP).
  • Manage caseload to achieve sustained employment, training, education and completion of prison employment outcomes.
  • Work towards agreed KPIs, targets, ensuring quality assurance standards are met.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Career guidance experience and/or an IAG qualification.
  • Experience advising on career choices, apprenticeships or training journeys.
  • Experience working with individuals who have complex needs in a challenging environment.
Background Checks & Vetting

Requires an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS EL1 vetting.
