Vacancy for Conservator, Time-based Media at Tate

This is a new opportunity to work as a time-based media conservator. This role is part of dedicated project to realise the acquisition of a large gift of artworks to Tate. This role will deliver the acquisition of new artworks into Tate’s collection, working within a team of conservators and technicians. This role will require the understanding of individual artworks, their needs for acquisition, production techniques, display requirements and the risks for long term preservation. The role will also require undertaking collection care and preventive conservation activity and as such the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of strategies, procedures and workflows for the preservation of artworks.

You will either hold a recognised qualification in conservation or have equivalent relevant experience for working with time-based media artworks. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of the issues associated with time-based media artworks and equipment. It is also desirable to understand the emerging themes and challenges within the discipline of time-based media conservation.

You will need to be able to work independently on the examination, processing, and treatment of time-based media artworks. This includes documentation of the artworks and associated equipment. You will also need to communicate effectively and provide specialist advice to a range of stakeholders. This requires effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral. You will need to demonstrate effective organisational, time management and planning skills.
