Job description

Bioliberty is on a mission to give everyone the best chance at recovery from a mobility-limiting condition or injury so they can regain their independence.

Founded in 2020, we've raised $7 million from a mix of public and private investors and launched our first product to the U.S. healthcare market in May 2025. We hold seven patents across our core technologies, Lifehub and Lifeglov - both of which are FDA-registered.

We’re now entering an exciting new phase of growth and are looking for a talented UX Designer to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to design technology that makes a real-world impact, helping improve patient outcomes and enabling clinicians to deliver more effective and engaging therapy.

Responsibilities

Device App Design:

  • Create user experiences and interface designs for our Android tablet application embedded in our robotic control device, specifically designed for patients with motor function challenges. This includes working on our collection of Unity rehabilitation games.

Web Platform:

  • Develop and contribute to the design of our clinician-focused web dashboard built in React, creating intuitive interfaces for monitoring patient behaviour and recovery journeys.

Design System:

  • Be involved in the creation of our first design system to ensure consistency across all platforms, including component libraries, style guides, and design patterns that work for both patient and clinician users.

Research & Testing:

  • Contribute to our user research initiatives and usability testing with stroke patients and clinicians to shape our product design based on real-world feedback and motor function capabilities.

Quality & Accessibility:

  • Develop design standards that prioritize accessibility and ease of use, with particular focus on users with motor function limitations, while adhering to medical device regulatory standards.
Requirements
  • Experience: 2+ years in UX design, working on web applications or mobile applications, with design system experience being useful.
  • Willingness to learn how to become a leader in design by learning how to independently drive design decisions and establish design processes, with guidance.
  • Experience with user research methodologies and usability testing, particularly with users who have accessibility needs.
  • Experience working directly with a technical team, and a high-level understanding of how applications are developed.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while being the sole design voice.
Technical Skills
  • Figma (primary design tool) or similar.
  • Any prototyping tools for both mobile and web interfaces.
  • Experience creating design systems from scratch.
  • User research and testing tools.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
  • Experience with design principles and mobile / web design.
  • Game UI / UX design experience is a plus.
  • Experience with healthcare is a plus.
What we offer
  • £40-45k salary (depending on experience).
  • Annual personal development budget.
  • 32 days paid leave (inclusive of public holidays).
  • 3% employer pension contribution, 5% employee.
  • Private medical insurance covering optical, mental health, dental, and medical care.
  • Discounted gym memberships.
  • Flexible options for working environment and hours.
  • A fully equipped tech setup to support effective remote or hybrid working.
  • Regular team get-togethers.
  • UK office based at the National Robotarium, Edinburgh, with gym and nursery onsite.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme for those working on-site.
  • Opportunities to travel for work to conferences, suppliers, customers and events.
  • To be part of a collaborative, passionate, and high performing team working to improve the lives of many.
