A leading healthcare organisation in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a consultant urologist to develop a cancer urology service, specializing in pelvic cancer and Da Vinci Robotic Prostatectomies. Overview

The three consultant urologists will require to be confident to carry out pelvic cancer work with subspecialisation in prostate cancer and Da Vinci Robotic Prostatectomies with additional subspecialty interests to complement the department. This post would suit a CCT or CESR holder for a substantive position or a fixed locum position for someone with clear plans to obtain specialist registration.

The purpose of this post is to provide and co-ordinate an effective cancer urology service and to develop a sub-specialty interest that complements the department. They are also expected to take part in all departmental activities, including on-call, audit and teaching.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide outpatient urology clinic services; this may include minor procedures
  • To perform independent elective and emergency operating including day case surgery
  • To undertake speciality clinics and participate as a core member in Urology MDTs.
  • Any responsibility which relates to a special interest;
  • Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures;
  • To provide consultant level Urology on call duties (1 in 11). This will include on site daytime cover and post take ward round, and to contribute to the pelvic urology on call rota.
