Are you an experienced senior fleet leader looking for a board facing opportunity within a fast paced, complex 3PL logistics business?

The Company

Our client, a leading third‑party logistics provider, are seeking an accomplished UK Fleet Director to take full strategic ownership of a large, multi‑site fleet operation comprising of over 6,000 assets nationwide.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for setting and delivering the UK fleet strategy, aligned to wider business objectives around procurement, cost, service, sustainability and compliance.

You will work closely with the centralised group fleet function, operational directors and external partners to ensure the fleet supports growth, resilience and long‑term operational excellence.

The Role
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the UK fleet operation, ensuring it supports wider commercial and operational objectives.
  • Hold full accountability for a ranging and mixed fleet of 6,000 assets, plus commercial vehicles, ensuring best in class compliance, availability and performance across all sites.
  • Act as the senior interface with all in‑house and outsourced fleet maintenance, engineering and leasing partners, owning contractual relationships and performance against SLAs.
  • Partner with the centralised European & Global group fleet teams to shape and evolve the UK fleet strategy, influence policy, and embed best practice across the network.
  • Lead fleet budgeting, forecasting and long‑term capital planning, driving cost optimisation without compromising service or safety.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, maintenance regimes and health & safety standards.
  • Develop and deliver continuous improvement programmes focused on fleet utilisation, asset life cycle management, fuel efficiency and sustainability.
  • Provide executive oversight of vehicle procurement strategy, supplier selection and contract negotiation.
  • Set the strategic framework for driver compliance, telematics, risk management and performance reporting.
  • Operate as a senior stakeholder within the UK leadership team, providing clear data‑led insight and recommendations.
  • Commutable UK wide when required, to the Midlands region (Leicestershire, Northampton, Milton Keynes areas) more frequently whilst working to a hybrid working pattern.
The Candidate

The successful candidate for the UK Fleet Director opportunity will have the following skills and experiences :

  • A senior background in Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain - Essential.
  • Proven experience operating at a Fleet Director, Head of Fleet or equivalent senior level within preferably a 3PL or Transport / Logistics environment - Essential.
  • Demonstrable experience leading large‑scale, multi‑site fleet operations in excess of 4,500 vehicles previously - Essential.
  • Expert knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance governance and operator licence management - Essential.
  • Strategic mindset with a track record of developing and delivering fleet strategies aligned to commercial outcomes - Essential.
  • Experience working with FMCG and / or Temperature Controlled Fleets - Advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle engineering principles and asset life cycle management - Advantageous.
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification - Advantageous.
  • Highly effective at managing senior stakeholder relationships, suppliers and outsourced service partners - Essential.
  • Commercially astute, with strong experience in budget ownership, cost optimisation and capital investment decisions - Essential.
  • Credible leader with the ability to influence at board and executive level, supported by strong communication and analytical skills - Essential.
  • Commutable across the Leicestershire, Northampton, Milton Keynes areas on a more frequent basis, with National travel required to meet business needs - Essential.
