Job description
Overview

This post is primarily intended for resident doctors in Thoracic Surgery who have completed Core Training (or equivalent) and are either working towards a UK national training grade post in Thoracic or towards a CESR/FRCS application. The post does not carry SAC or college approval for training but we are a recognised training centre with an active commitment to train all resident grade doctors. It is essential that the candidate has passed the intercollegiate MRCS, or is able to demonstrate equivalent competencies, and has a minimum of cardiothoracic experience of 12 months as an SHO/Core trainee grade.

Responsibilities
  • Be part of a 1 in 6 registrar on call rota and act as a competent member of the on-call team, including professional communication with colleagues and the team and organisation/provision of initial patient care.
  • Elective duties: principally work one-on-one with a consultant but may cover other duties to ensure all elective and emergency service provision by the department.
  • Attend clinics, theatre sessions and ward rounds as per allocation in a weekly timetable within City campus site.
  • Know the patients under the care of the thoracic team and assist with the running of the Department.
