Job summary

A development planning consultancy in Exeter is seeking a motivated Transport Planner to join their growing team. You will work on diverse planning-stage development projects, supported by mentoring and structured training. The role requires a degree in Civil Engineering or Geography and 2–4 years of relevant experience. Qualifications

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for aTransport Plannerto join a busy, growing team and work on a diverse portfolio ofplanning-stage development projectsfor private-sector clients.

You’ll support senior colleagues while gaining hands‑on experience across all aspects of transport planning, with structured mentoring and training provided throughout.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • PreparingTransport Assessments, Transport Statements, Feasibility Studies and Travel Plans
  • Undertaking traffic generation, distribution and junction capacity analysis
  • Carrying out site visits and accessibility / active travel audits
  • Assisting with multi-modal access strategies and off-site highway improvement schemes
  • Working with industry-standard software includingAutoCAD, GIS, TRICS, TEMPRO and JUNCTIONS
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues in related disciplines such asFlood Risk & Drainage

You’ll be encouraged to get involved across the full project lifecycle, building both technical capability and commercial awareness.

Training & Development

You’ll be joining a team led by aChartered Transport Plannerwho is also an approved professional reviewer. This provides an excellent platform for mentoring and support as you work towardsChartered or Incorporated status.

The consultancy offers a structured, accredited training environment with both internal and external development opportunities.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated and proactive Transport Planner who brings:

  • Adegree in Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline
  • AnMSc in Transport Planning(advantageous but not essential)
  • Typically2–4 years’ experiencein development-led transport planning (ideally private sector)
  • Experience contributing to Transport Assessments, access strategies and feasibility work
  • An interest in working toward a professional qualification (IEng, CEng or TPP)
  • Good numeracy, analytical and report-writing skills
  • A working knowledge of current guidance such asMfS, DMRB
  • Familiarity with software such asARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG, GIS and Excel
  • CAD / GIS experience (beneficial, not essential)
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm to learn and progress
