Transformation Finance Accountant

Description

Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to support the Head of Finance Projects to initiate, develop, test, manage and deploy finance transformation initiatives in response to ongoing finance change and continuous improvement projects.

This role will suit an individual from an insurance accounting background that has an interest in developing a career in finance transformation and change management. The role will involve project management and business analysis.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Finance Projects in the strategic planning of the Finance transformation roadmap and the prioritisation and management of all aspects of Finance projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead finance transformation initiatives, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Lead finance transformation workshops and meetings identifying follow up actions and assigning responsibility for completing tasks within agreed timeframes.
  • Act as a business analyst, assist in requirements gathering, documentation of business processes and the communication with key stakeholders impacted by finance change initiatives.
  • Analyse and document the current state finance processes, establish the future state finance processes, identify areas for improvement and the actions required to achieve the desired future state outcome.
  • Design solutions, plan and perform user acceptance testing and document the results. Investigate and resolve any issues identified and communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the finance IT systems and the business rules engine configuration. Work alongside the IT SQL database developers and the Change team to implement changes to the finance business rules engine while applying the Lancashire change governance framework.
  • Support the implementation of projects and the eventual handover of finance changes to BAU, including training finance team members on new processes and systems.
  • Communicate with all areas of the business, and manage stakeholders effectively, at all levels while co-ordinating activities between different departments.
  • Provide clear, focused, relevant and timely written and verbal status updates to the Head of Finance Projects with the investigation and articulation of proposed solutions to any issues identified.
  • Focus on standardising finance processes, controls, reporting and reconciliations across the Company and Syndicate platforms.
  • Ensure project risks and issues are managed and documented; recommend the appropriate risk evaluation procedures.
Essential Skills & Requirements
  • Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA);
  • Experience gained in the insurance/reinsurance environment preferred;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data;
  • Project management experience preferred with a track record of managing finance projects;
  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate technical information to stakeholders;
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing project management training and accreditation;
  • Experience with Great Plains General Ledger, Power BI, AI tools and SQL would be beneficial;
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of application, in particular Excel and Word;
  • A team player and creative problem solver;
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly to meet business needs including extended hours if required;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisation and time management skills.
