Overview

An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Training Programme Director for Rheumatology for KSS. This is a 1PA Training Programme Director vacancy. The role is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions aligned to the NHSE England mandate.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Rheumatology Regional Training Programme.
  • Address specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
  • Recruitment to training posts and programmes.
  • Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, out-of-programme management, trainee management, careers support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training and related workstreams.

  • Experienced NHS Consultant with thorough understanding of Rheumatology training across the region.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.
Context and expectations

The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School and focuses on learner supervision, assessment, experience, faculty engagement and ensuring effective educational outcomes now and in the future. The role includes whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links. The post supports the Postgraduate Dean and works across health and social care contexts to reflect evolving service models and integrated workforce development.

Appointment details

The post is offered on a secondment basis. Applicants from within the NHS will be offered a secondment, with agreement from their employer required prior to submission. In line with sessional TPD payments, NHSE provides an employer contribution at £10k per 1PA per year. The length of appointment will initially be until 30 September 2026. Delegated time for in-person work is expected to average at least 40% where base conditions allow.
