Trainee Buyer (Construction)

A highly respected construction company in Hertfordshire are looking for a Trainee Buyer to join their team.

This mid-sized contractor works across a range of sectors, including commercial, community, healthcare, hospitality and retail - undertaking schemes ranging from £1-15m. You will enjoy working in a relaxed atmosphere within an experienced and, importantly, a happy team. Staff turnover is low, morale is high, and business is booming. They will offer you training, support, and progression within a very experienced team.

Overview

Purpose of the Role: To provide support within the Buying department by assisting with the procurement of materials and services for construction projects. This is an entry-level role designed for a school/college leaver or early-career individual with a genuine interest in construction, offering a clear pathway into Quantity Surveying after two years if desired.

Key Responsibilities
  • Place purchase orders with suppliers for construction materials and equipment.
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes, confirm lead times, and resolve order issues.
  • Support colleagues in the Buying department with day-to-day procurement tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of orders and deliveries.
  • Assist in tracking costs and ensuring materials are ordered within budget.
  • Build positive working relationships with site teams and suppliers.
  • Develop knowledge of construction materials, processes, and procurement systems.
  • Prepare to transition into the Quantity Surveying department after two years.
