An independent commodity trading firm specialising in the European steel industry is seeking a Trade Support Administrator to provide day-to-day operational and administrative support to its trading activities. Based in a small, close-knit London office, this role is central to ensuring the smooth execution of supplier and customer contracts, accurate data management, and effective coordination across logistics, documentation, and finance.

The business imports finished steel products from global suppliers and delivers to UK customers across construction, automotive, engineering, and agricultural sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised, detail-oriented individual to develop a strong understanding of commodity trading operations in a supportive, hands‑on environment.

Key Responsibilities
Contract Execution
  • Support successful execution of supplier and customer contracts
  • Track vessel loadings and provide regular status updates
  • Monitor vessel sailings and voyage progress
  • Manage storage monitoring and stock reconciliation
  • Coordinate delivery of goods to end customers
  • Handle all supporting shipping and trade documentation
  • Provide real-time order status updates to customers
  • Monitor customer credit limits and payment status
  • Reconcile invoices and physical stock
  • Arrange customs clearance prior to arrival, subject to import quotas
  • Send original documents to ports for cargo discharge
  • Check, sort, scan, and distribute Mill Test Certificates to customers
  • Manage risk elements including insured credit limits and offtake periods
Data Entry & Reporting
  • Raise purchase orders and sales contracts accurately using internal systems, Excel, and Word
  • Record mill offers and transfer prices on behalf of traders
  • Run pre-trade calculations using Excel
  • Maintain accounting data and issue invoices (subject to approval)
  • Prepare and issue statements of account to customers
  • Sort packing lists and update stock records
  • Maintain order book spreadsheets with new orders, shipments, and tonnage
  • Reconcile port stock reports and update internal systems
  • Run credit limit and import/export reports as required
Data Storage & Office Administration
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical filing systems
  • Manage original and copy documentation for each contract
  • Track documents received and outstanding
  • General office administration including filing, stationery management, post office runs, and travel arrangements
