The role of the Fern Federation Community and Family Engagement Officer is to assist in tackling underachievement and poverty by working in partnership with families, parents, carers, pupils and community members as well as other agencies where appropriate to enable pupils, particularly the most disadvantaged, to have full access to educational opportunities and to support families to overcome barriers to learning and participation in school life and in the life of their communities. The Family Engagement Officer will focus on preventative and early intervention activities, such as improving attendance and promoting family learning. Their work will target situations where the needs of families and community members do not meet the thresholds for statutory services. A key responsibility will be coordinating services and developing an integrated model in partnership with other agencies, with schools serving as the central point of delivery.
