Job Title - Technical Manager - Process Engineering - Subject Matter Expert
Location - UK
Purpose of the Role:

The Technical Manager will be a key member of the Engineering Management Team, responsible for providing technical leadership and business improvement in a specific area of expertise. This role involves developing proactive relationships with various internal teams and external clients, supporting strategic engineering objectives without being on project critical paths. The role is crucial for driving initiatives and supporting the success of engineering strategies.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Drive your strategy to add value to GT, accountable to the Engineering Leadership Team.
  2. Respond to business challenges requiring expert attention in your area.
  3. Offer specialist advice, control, and assurance on discipline-specific principles.
  4. Train and develop Engineers within your discipline.
  5. Communicate ideas to stakeholders, clients, and colleagues, based on application examples or first principles.
  6. Ensure adherence to relevant standards and legislation, and support technical governance and assurance.
  7. Act as an internal disruptor and innovator, seeking industry norm challenges to improve engineering effectiveness.
  8. Drive engineering initiatives and work externally as a SME to support consultancy development.
  9. Interface with clients on technical leadership.
  10. Support business development and develop industry-wide peer networks.
  11. Seek recognition in your area of expertise and maintain personal development.
  12. Develop and manage relationships, working closely with engineering senior management to understand wider needs, risks, and opportunities.
  13. Ensure compliance with GT BMS and other management systems.
  14. Implement Galliford Try's strategy on Carbon, Digital, DfMA, and Innovation.
  15. Comply with SHE policies, legal requirements, and promote a safe environment.
  16. Embodies Galliford Try's values (EPIC) and promotes its vision.
About You
  • Subject Matter Expert in a key engineering area.
  • Experience managing design functions internally and externally.
  • Ability to promote best practice and innovation.
  • Leadership skills in initiatives and supporting design teams.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage performance.
  • Analytical skills and concise presentation abilities.
  • Strong communication skills in writing and speaking.
  • Engineering background with understanding of multiple disciplines.
  • Design or Project Management experience, preferably in Water industry.
  • Engineering degree (MEng, MSc, BEng, BSc) or relevant qualification.
  • Professional membership is a plus.
  • Experience with Digital Technologies in construction.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office.
