About The Role

Are you passionate about photography and helping creative people bring their ideas to life? Leeds City College are looking for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy Technical Demonstrator in Photography to join our Lens-Based and digital department, based at our state-of-the-art Quarry Hill Campus in the heart of Leeds Creative Quarter.

You'll be responsible for assisting students and staff in our studios and darkroom facilities, provide technical support for our delivery of BTEC courses within the Visual Arts, Photography and Graphics Department. Experience and knowledge of the Adobe suite is essential.

What You Will Do

• Manage the day-to-day requirements of the photography facilities. Coordinate the repair, replacement and updating of tools and equipment. Coordinate with photo staff and schedule opening times for the technical dispensary.
• Design and deliver student facing facilitation workshops and demonstrations that support students in successfully meeting learning outcomes, and assist staff in updating their technical skills, in the photography area. This includes liaising with teaching staff in setting up studio spaces with relevant equipment before lessons making sure it is all in working order ready for classes to start.
• Resetting studios at the end of the day.
• Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and its photographic industry standard applications (i.e. Photoshop and Lightroom).
• Supporting students in the darkroom and in all studios (including classrooms) during the independent stage of their projects with technical assistance.
• Preparing and assisting staff and students in function of the darkroom i.e. mixing processing and developing chemicals and checking enlargers are all in working order.
• Manage the consumables budget allocation for the photography area.
• Support academic staff and students in the safe use and care of all materials, processes and equipment. Oversee Health and Safety practices to maintain safe work conditions and comply with established safety policies, practices, procedures and requirements. Coordinate the use of departmental and College resources to meet COSHH standards.
• Maintain a complete and accurate audit of all photography resources.
• Work with faculty, staff and college administration on the ongoing development of the Visual Arts Subject Area facilities, researching and helping to implement equipment and upgrades and improvements where appropriate.

• Support learners to produce work.
• Demonstrate technical techniques, technology and equipment to students as required by teaching staff to support study programmes.
• Prepare and maintain the facilities and equipment to a high standard and ensure that the area and learners are compliant with all relevant Health and Safety Legislation including COSHH regulations.
• Maintain and organise teaching spaces in relation to curriculum need.
• Introduce new techniques and technologies relevant to the subject area, and facilitate small groups of students in technical workshops and support independent learning sessions.
• Oversee the technical aspects of students’ work and use of specialist resources and equipment across the curriculum.
• Keep abreast of new technologies, and demonstrate new equipment to students.
• IT literate including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases i.e. Microsoft Word, Access and Excel and Google platforms.
• Support and promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Promotion of a safe environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults to learn in.
