Learn to Swim Instructor | West Wave Henderson
Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of making Auckland the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for Learn to Swim Instructors to join our West Wave Henderson Team to help achieve that goal!
This is a fantastic job where you don’t need any formal qualifications or experience to apply—just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference! We'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.
We’re excited to offer four permanent part‑time positions: three roles with 12‑hour shifts and one with an 8‑hour shift. The specific shift details are as follows:
We require candidates to be available to start by 3:15 PM. If there’s anything that may prevent you from doing so— for example, school commitments—please keep this in mind when considering the role. We do not offer exemptions for late starts, and we prefer not to rely on school‑issued permissions to accommodate work schedules.
You will be working with any age group, you’ll be a confident swimmer and an enthusiastic instructor with a genuine love for water and working with people. Exceptional customer service and clear communication skills are essential, as you'll be engaging with families and the wider community.
If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that’d be fantastic. However, we will provide full, comprehensive training that you need to excel in the job.
If you do not have a recognised swim teacher qualification, e.g. AUSTSWIM, you will be required to attend training organised by us,
To be considered for this role, you must also be willing to complete First Aid training.
Training will take place from 12–16 January 2026 and 19–23 January 2026.

We strongly encourage up‑skilling and training and as such once you are hired you will have the opportunity to pick up extra hours in a variety of roles such as Lifeguard, Customer Service Rep, Recreation Assistant and more.

Pay Rate: Living Wage, $28.95
Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
