Team Leader

Function: Technical Service / Service

Location: Southend-on-Sea, England, United Kingdom

As a Team Leader working in our Medical Repair Service (MRS) Centre, you will play a key role in safeguarding the quality, safety, and efficiency of the repair services we provide to our customers and their patients. Leading a team of skilled technicians, you will be responsible for championing our core values, ensuring they are reflected in every action, decision and interaction within your team. This position is being recruited as a 12 month fixed‑term contract, providing cover for maternity leave.

Your responsibilities
  • Safety -
    • Responsible for ensuring your team work in a safe and healthy environment, that they are compliant with the relevant health, safety and environment procedures including PPE and waste disposal
    • Promote a culture where Accidents, Near Misses, Potential Near Misses are reported, prioritising corrective actions and escalation where required
    • Ensure that Risk Assessments are carried out, reviewed and are up-to-date
  • Delivery -
    • Ensure that customer satisfaction is met by delivering the committed repair duration turnaround targets
    • Effective management of staff utilisation and capacity planning, including holiday and absence
    • Drive continuous improvement and ensure that all team members are operating at the required performance levels by using data to analyse Quality, Delivery and Cost
    • Addressing performance issues through expectation setting, feedback, coaching, and support
  • Quality -
    • Ensure quality standards are met throughout the repair process
  • Personal and Team Development -
    • Ensure that the team is engaged in the business objectives
    • Resolve first line people management topics e.g. return to work meetings, attendance meetings, undertaking informal and formal investigation meetings, undertaking appraisals and performance improvement plans (PIPs), referrals to Occupational Health
    • Continued development of self, to ensure that identified training needs are met and exceeded
  • Essential -
    • Proven experience in team leadership, coaching and performance development
    • Strong technical understanding and hands‑on operational experience
    • Confident in managing challenging situations with balance and professionalism
    • Solid computer literacy, including document creation, spreadsheets, email and diary management
  • Desirable -
    • Exposure to project coordination or project management
    • Previous formal management training
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools
  • Additional Requirements -
    • Ability to carry out manual handling tasks where required
    • Comfortable with periods of prolonged sitting or standing, and routine PC use
    • Willingness to work occasional unsociable hours, when business need arises
