Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a Bournemouth school from January, working closely with pupils who present complex behavioural needs. This role is crucial in creating a stable, supportive atmosphere where students can build confidence and achieve their potential.

  • Providing targeted one-to-one and small group support for students with challenging behaviour
  • Implementing and reinforcing behaviour management plans and strategies tailored to individual needs
  • Supporting students during crisis situations with de-escalation techniques and emotional regulation
  • Recording and monitoring behaviour incidents accurately and sensitively
  • Collaborating with teaching staff, SENCO, parents, and external professionals to deliver coordinated support
  • Promoting a calm, safe, and respectful learning environment
  • Proven experience supporting children or young people with challenging and complex behaviour
  • Strong knowledge of positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
  • Patient, calm under pressure, and able to respond flexibly to difficult situations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students and colleagues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Relevant qualifications or training in behaviour support, SEND, or mental health support are highly desirable
