Location: Leicester

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm | Term Time Only

Contract: Full-Time | Temp- Long-Term or Permanent for the right candidate

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications

GSL Education is seeking a resilient, compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other Special Educational Needs (SEND), including Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a highly supportive, therapeutic educational setting where the focus is on individual growth, emotional wellbeing, and inclusive learning.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, no two days will be the same. You'll be working closely with pupils aged 7–17, many of whom require consistent, sensitive and skilled support to engage in learning and develop socially and emotionally.

You will play a key role in shaping positive outcomes through personalised support, strong communication, and a trauma-informed approach.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support tailored to individual needs
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Support students in the classroom and during educational visits
  • Build trusting relationships through patience, consistency, and empathy
  • Help develop students’ social skills through games, conversations, and group work
  • Assist in the creation of engaging classroom displays and learning resources
  • Celebrate student successes and progress
  • Participate in regular reflective and therapeutic practice sessions

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD or similar needs
  • Resilience, empathy, and a calm approach to challenging situations
  • Strong behaviour management and excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to get involved – from learning support to lunchtime engagement
  • A genuine passion for inclusive, trauma-informed education
  • A good standard of Maths and English
