Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high‑quality RE lessons that meet the requirements of the school curriculum and exam syllabuses (KS3‑KS5 as required).
  • Set appropriately challenging work, differentiated for all pupils including SEND and EAL.
  • Maintain accurate seating plans, lesson plans and records of learning outcomes.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies and assessment for learning techniques to monitor progress and intervene where necessary.
  • Where required, prepare students for public examinations and internal assessments.
Assessment, Recording & Reporting
  • Mark and provide timely, actionable feedback in line with the school's Marking & Feedback policy (e.g., within two working weeks or the school's published timescale).
  • Produce accurate end‑of‑term reports, submit assessment data and attend parents' evenings.
  • Write examination papers or contribute to common assessments when requested.
Curriculum Development & Departmental Contribution
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation and review of RE schemes of work and resources.
  • Participate fully in faculty meetings and moderation activities.
  • Support the Head of RE with curriculum planning, assessment design and quality assurance where required.
Pastoral Care & Safeguarding
  • Act as a form tutor if required: deliver tutor programme/PSHE, monitor attendance and behaviour, support pupil wellbeing.
  • Demonstrate, promote and uphold the Catholic ethos and values of Fidelis College in pastoral practice.
  • Maintain professional safeguarding practice: attend required safeguarding training, follow child protection policy and elevate concerns promptly.
Spiritual Life & Enrichment
  • Contribute to the spiritual and moral life of the school through assemblies as appropriate for a Catholic school.
  • Lead or support trips, visits and extra‑curricular RE enrichment activities.
Wider School Contribution
  • Contribute to the co‑curricular programme (clubs, trips, revision sessions) and support whole‑school events such as Open Days and parental engagement activities.
Professional Responsibilities & Development
  • Participate fully in the school's appraisal/performance management processes, lesson observations and professional development activities.
  • Engage in reflective practice and maintain CPD records.
General & Administrative
  • Undertake supervisory duties and cover as scheduled.
  • Keep records of student attendance, grades and behaviour in the school information system.
  • Comply with all school policies (Behaviour, Health & Safety, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities).
Person Specification – Essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised teaching qualification and eligible to work in the UK.
  • Good honours degree in Religious Education, Theology, Philosophy or related subject.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour for learning skills.
  • Clear understanding of child safeguarding and welfare responsibilities; willingness to undertake safeguarding training.
  • Commitment to the Catholic ethos and values of the College and to promoting spiritual and moral development.
Person Specification – Desirable
  • A practising Catholic.
  • Ability to teach RE effectively across relevant key stages (experience with GCSE / A-level where relevant).
  • Experience of leading aspects of an RE department (schemes of work, moderation, assessment).
  • Experience with common examination specification(s) (GCSE Religious Studies, A-level Religious Studies / Philosophy / Ethics).
  • Experience of supporting students with SEND in mainstream classrooms.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (e.g., RRHAN‑EC, first aid).
